What Good Progression Feels Like in a Mobile RPG
Progression is the heartbeat of any RPG, and on mobile it's easy to get wrong. Too slow and you bounce off. Too fast and nothing feels earned. The good ones find a rhythm where every session leaves you a little stronger without demanding you grind.
Emberfall Saga is my current example of getting it right. Levels matter, but so do the choices around them — which skills to invest in, what gear to craft, how to build your party around each other. The numbers going up are only half of it; the decisions are the other half.
The trap a lot of games fall into is making you repeat the same fight fifty times just to advance. That's not progression, that's a chore with a progress bar. The best design gives you new problems as you get stronger, not the same problem more times.
My advice when you start any RPG: don't rush to max one character. Spread your investment early, see what playstyles the game supports, then commit once you understand the combat. You'll enjoy the mid-game far more.
